Had a great metal detecting adventure yesterday! I found civil war bullets, colonial buckles and buttons but the main find was a gold ring with an eagle on it! I have not been able to find a similar ring anywhere. I believe it is a military ring since it has the eagle with what appears to be an olive branch in his mouth. What I thought were scratches on the back appears to be some sort of makers mark or symbols? If you figure it out let me know! video here

That looks like an old wax seal ring. Whatever it is, I am positive it is not one to melt. Great find.

I'm no expert, but you have some old finds there. I hope some experts will chime in on that ring. I believe it deserves a banner vote. Congrats on a great outing

Very unique find-and probably pretty valuable too. I would recommend having it reshaped-never seen anything like it. Huge congratulations! Colonial-era gold rings are very scarce, and the eagle insignia makes it really special. Scubadetector could be onto something with the wax seal although all of the ones I have seen were made of brass.

My banner vote is in

Unbelievable, early gold ring! I would definitely move really slow doing anything to that. Wait for folks to chime in on exactly what it is. I've never seen anything like that state side. Congrats!

Excellent find! I wonder if you could trace it back to the original user. There must be a database somewhere.

I think it looks a lot like a chicken. Unless you are a chicken farmer I can't imagine wanting a chicken ring.

Okay I'll agree that it's a very old eagle.

Great job having it fly under your coil.
