Got out for a river hunt with my buddy Andy. We sampled a few sites with not much to show then we hit the site we intended to go to. The site is loaded with iron and ballast stone and being that I'm relatively new to river hunting, target recovery time was a little too long for my liking. We did manage a couple of coins, some lead and buckle frags but the best thing of all was the learning factor. We've really learned that river bottoms vary tremendously, some you shouldn't bother with and others require the proper tools.
I found a 1620s Skilling (thanks to Bramblefind for the ID) and Andy found a 1690s William III farthing. Thanks for looking!

Boy...you don't mess around when it comes to finding the old stuff. I've never tried my hand at river hunting...guessing its not for the squeamish. Well done.

This site goes from 3 ft deep to 40 feet pretty quickly and if you aren't careful the current will take you right out. Snakes, snapping turtles, bacteria and killer amoeba are just a few of the risks....oh yeah, watch where you step because you might sink chin deep in thick mud [emoji15]

Haha who do you think you're fooling pal???? You're just trying to keep the competition out of your water. Probably sharks and hippos too huh? Lol

You're right, I feel like I'm starting all over again by hunting in the rivers. Kind of exciting actually!

I think I'm going to start water hunting despite the currents, bacteria, snakes, turtles, hippos and white sharks 🦈

Go ahead, hit a 17th century landing but don't blame me when bacteria is eating your leg off.

Awesome hunt man :occasion14:. Really glad you got an I'd on that hammered and not surprised Bramblefind was the one to pull that off! Well done Bramblefind. Looking forward to your next hunt and once those new recovery accessories are ready, you should be rolling on the recoveries.

Flesh eating bacteria is the only thing industrial Jersey waterways contain. In fact I know exactly where a 1670's grist mill was, but just can't get myself into that water - bad anaconda problem there.
