I was out this morning and not doing very good . I was in down town Cape Coral Florida. Now Cape Coral has only been around since 1959 so I don't find many silver or wheat back pennies. Well anyway I found about 15 coins around a vacant lot ,then I came up to some concrete pads. I am sure they were part of a past foundation. Everything here is nothing but sand and it easy digging . I have a whites Spectra V3i and I waved it over the concrete seams as I walked by and it went off . No surprise there lots of metal in concrete. But in this case it only went off over the joint in the concrete. So I checked it with my pin pointer. It went off along the joint in the concrete for about 2 feet. So i dug in with a screwdriver and started posing out coins. They just kept coming and coming out. I filled my pockets and the went to my truck to dump them and go back . I went as deep as my screw driver would go and there are still coins in there. I could see them . But I couldn't reach them . Going to go back Sunday with some other kind of tool . The Crack opened up wider as it went down. Not sure why the coins are in such bad shape? No silver, no wheat back pennies that I could tell. It was the most coins I have ever found in a day. I have had a couple over 100 coin days . I am including some pictures.

Thier were a bunch of coins that I wasn't even sure we're coins . I broke them in half with my fingers and tossed them . Looked like copper in the middle. But you say they are zinc?

No matter the dates, what a great find to pull in so many coins! The newer Lincolns do disintegrate quickly in the ground or salt water, because they don't have the integrity of copper. I bet it was a fun morning - congrats!

Congrats on an awesome haul of coins! It is likely that the sand contains appreciable amounts of salt and we all know how coins react to salt water, so each time it rains, the coins suffer more and more. It looks like you need to invest in a decent Ultrasonic Cleaner to clean them up before rolling them to take to the bank.

Zincolns is slang for U.S. cents made since 1982. The core is zinc and they are just plated with cooper.

Not all 82 cents are zinc...you can tell the difference by the sound.

In 1982 the Fed, Started making Cents using Copper coated Zinc, So some 1982 Cents are Copper "Alloy" but it seems most are Zinc.

That said 'Before 1982 Def , Copper' ; 1982 Could be copper (a scrape test works well, if not obvious ) & 1983 on "Stinking Zinclons".

Also pure Zinc is a 'in demand' Scrap Metal. If it were Legal to melt down the Zincs if My be profitable.???

Since 1982 they only made Billions & Billions of them.

I never have gotten rid of any coins I have found , so I have a lot. I made 3 oak treasure chest about 2 ft long and 15 inches high to put them in . I have 3 kids , so it's one chest full of treasure for each after I am gone . I have told my daughter and younger son to watch thier older brother after he gets a chest , that he doesn't run to a coin star and pour them all in to get cash. Got a lot of silver over the years .

That's a hoard of "dug" coinage you found. Congrats on the pile and good luck on the return hunt.

That is the oddest thing I think I have ever heard No other cracks had any coins? Just this one? Sounds very deliberate to me. Some kid hell bent on filling a crack! or something.
Cheers I would have been right next to you chiseling them out. !!

Honestly, I never got past this first Crack. But I am going back Sunday morning. I want to see how many more come out of there. I could see there were more . But how to reach them without breaking the concrete.
