Button Identification

Hi everyone,

I not really a treasure hunter but I came across this button while scuba diving in the Cooper River in South Carolina (Charleston area). I like some help identifying it. A person from another forum said it was Cinquefoil in lattice on the front. It has laurel leaves on the back. He also mentioned that it possibly came from Fermins in Birmingham (central UK) or Reynolds. I'm looking for any information you can give.

Thanks! It was an exciting find since I was looking for megalodon teeth. It was something I didn't expect to see. I hope I can find out its origin.

Wow I thing I would rather have one of those teeth for my display cases that would be great. Someone will help just give it time. I would love to scuba detect like some people on here do amazing finds.....Stay safe hope to see more posts from you also... Tommy

Its either a Dandy button or period, so 1750-80. But what size is it?

Thanks for the information. I don't have a ruler with me as I am traveling home from the dives. I would say a little less than the size of a quarter (US) and a little more than a nickel (US). Any idea what the material is?

Copper-alloy, would have been gilt. Too small for a Dandy, so I revise to 1780-1800ish.
