We are still poking around trying to find a good spot. This morning we tried a new permission field which we have never done. Spent 1.5 hours detecting the length of this massive field with the following results;
17th C Sword Belt Buckle
Medieval (once gilt) box stud (has a bent nail inside)
Tudor Button
Book clasp.

After lunch we returned to a field I tried on my own & where I got a 14th C Buckle. We hoped to grid it for a hammered. Cru'dad helped for a couple of hours & we both dug tons of junk & if it wasn't for the buttons & silver it would have been a bit disappointing. 3 Hours;
Silver pipe stem decor
1926 Shilling
Large Livery Button which I've had before & attributed it to the Heathcote family.
A small 'London Midland & Scottish Railway Company' Button (Only had 1 large version of this)
A button with a man blowing a horn with a stick & sheep (a first)
Midland Railways (had a couple)
My fav find of the day a Livery Button circa 1850 London with a Swan & 'Je Pense' - French for 'I Think' - Very unusual on a Livery Button.

On the way home we stopped off for an hour on a Roman Site on oilseed rape stalks but blanked other than 1 Vicky halfpenny.

The double looped belt buckle with an additional small rectangular loop, is for attachment of a sword belt via a hooked fastener 16-1700's. Nice find not had one of those.:thumbsup:

Good looking buttons. I quite like the little dragon on the railway button.

Yeap, that farm machinery for you, thats why when you get a rare coin its nice to see the plough has missed it for the last 100 or so years.

A save and a first (buckle) is not a bad day out there, your season is still in its infancy.

That's a decent haul...looks like a promising new site!
Its not a site as such unless you think Victorian trash spreading is a site. Its also not new land but an old field that has produced the odd hammered & random good find. This was an area I had not gridded in the past & I only did it on minimal signs - a few bits of Medieval pot shards.
But if we have no-where better, its still on the list, just towards the bottom.

No, I was referring to the first part of your post...with the sword belt buckle, Tudor button, etc. Any plans to get back there?

Sorry, that's the 100 acre field with the Church/Manor, plus several Iron Age Sites & maybe more. One of the fields on the recent 'Scouting' post.(only had the 1 Roman Coin) So we have gone back there & targeted it a bit better, but plenty of work to go yet.
