The morning hunt was pretty crappy for me, literally. I barely dug seven holes when my IBS kicked in and I had to get home asap. Home was only 6 miles away and I thought that I had managed to take care of it and we headed back. I made it a little longer and then had to hurry home again. The wife had managed to scrape up a 42 wheatie and a 42 Merc that had divits all over it. We came back later, around 4 and went back at it. I worked an area full of chunks of cast iron that looked and sounded pretty good as well as a bunch of these old steel grommets. the grommets were at various degree of deterioration and hit from 90 to 95 for me but I dug them anyways. I moved up to a fairly hard area on the side of a ridge, the diggable dirt was only be about 2-4 inches. So I knew that my digging in the heavy rooted area was behind me. Finally found a wheatie and then another about 10 ft away so I felt better. Then a couple of memorials as I worked around a big oak. Then I hit a solid 91 that sounded really good but so had the grommets. I dug as deep as the harden dirt below would allow me and flipped it over. Saw a wheatie under clod that had fallen back into the hole and as I lifted it up, I couldn't believe it as there were visible the edges of four or five coins. As I wiped the dirt back, I could now see three wheaties, a Merc and a big Silver. My wife claims that she heard me say "HOLY CRAP!" and she hurried over to see what I had found. I had to see what the big silver was and now could tell that it was a Walker, my second Walker in less than a month on this permission. It was a 1918s Walker, a 37 Merc, a 1920 wheatie, 26, 28D, 37D and a 40D. My wife also found another pocket knife, looks like an Old Timer. This is my first coin spill with multiple silvers and it was pretty awesome! Really made up for the attempted morning hunts. The 18 on the Walker was almost worn off, just barely there. Pretty stoked and the wife is really liking seeing silver in her holes too, she was pretty excited this morning too. Thanks for looking. Oh yeah, finds like these make asking permission a lot easier. DL

Congrats DL. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Very well done.

That Merc has been shot by a BB gun! I used to set up coins for target practice when I was a kid.

Best of luck to you!

Walkers and Mercurys. Both coins designed by Adolf Weinman. Very pretty coins. You and the bride got some sweet finds.

I love the BB shot Merc and that the silvers still have some dirt on them. I love seeing them fresh out of the dirt!

Thanks everyone, This whole time I have been hoping for just a silver US quarter, I know that there has to be at least one out here. The images of big silver just blow me away. And all it took was one great permission, I still have a ways to go on this place. Of course it has rained again and the grass is already way too high in most areas but the wife and I have been hitting the poorer and harder ground that has the least amount of surface topsoil. The spill wasn't over three inches deep, I can't figure out how no body found them after they dropped unless there were a lot of leaves. We went back for another short hunt this morning before the rain and I picked up another silver but that will be in the next post. Still learning a lot with the Deus, I struggle with some short term memory loss (too many strokes in the past) and have to constantly refresh myself. The ground here is kind of strange, well at least for me, the ground balance can change quite a bit in thirty yards or more so I keep reminding myself to check it. I was going to give the wife a break from detecting today but she insisted, something about her needing to find her own big silver. We are also finding a few pretty cool :icon_thumleft:relics.:icon_thumleft:

That reaping and sowing principal is kicking in brother. Keep returning the marked jewelry and good fortune will come your way. Great hunt and the wife seems to be having a blast too. What more can you ask for than that?:headbang:
