Relics from the woods

How many times has this happened to you?
Got out to my spot and turned on the detector and nothing.
So I took out the battery from the pinpointer and managed to get 1/2 battery indicator on the detector.
Better than nothing.
Anyway, I found these relics.
A large ax head.
QUESTION: the remaining wood sticking out of the head is like rock. It even has that ping when tapped with metal object. Is this an indication of age? Does the wood absorb the iron to make the wood have hard properties?
A putty knife is my guess on the other large iron tool right?

The more I read posts on this site, the more i realize I need to change my batteries more often! Full on the meter doesn't necessarily mean plenty of fuel to do the do. I can't answer your questions, but like what you found. Nice!

Nice finds, I found the same spoon and pattern few years back. I believe it is from 1921ish and is the Grosvenor pattern. We have all heard of the Oneida silverware company but interesting to read on the Oneida Community if you haven't, where it all began.
