Hi friends, John just dug this. It has a wick in it and the pin pointer makes a really high-pitched sound when touched. Some type of grenade? Found it deep in the stream. No idea as to age. Thanks for looking. -Lisa & John

UPDATE--after rinsing, we think it is in active because it is filled with dirt.
SECOND UPDATE--not so scary anymore... can't edit the caption though!

It definitely looks like it could be some old grenade. Be careful, but if that is a grenade, it is one heck of a find, because they havent used grenades like that in a long time.

Thanks, I'm trying to find a match for it online without much luck. -L&J

Having been found in a stream bed could also explain why it appears to be in suck great shape.

Looks like it's made of red clay, with a white handle. Little pitcher for cream or oils? But if it's the other thing that goes boom-I'd be checking me skivvies.:laughing7:

Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like a brass acorn shaped finial to me.

Well, you've got to admit--it looked like something scary coming out of the ground, but the "wick" fell away and it looks too small to be a grenade. Can't explain the high tone on the pin pointer, but whatever. As for a finial, Art and Cru, could be. And if you zoom in on that decorative lead seal, how coincidental that there is a very fine acorn on that, too. Sorry to alarm anyone! L&J

Most grenades are water tight. So there is a slim possibility that the powder and time delay fuse could still be functional.

The best way to make sure it's safe is to have it X-ray d . If your local police department has a EOD, or bomb squad, they can X-ray it.

A2 coins ... we will only confiscate it if it's deemed hazardous though x-rays and thorough chemical testing in order to identify the filler
