Just found this in a field close by. Any gun experts have an idea what type of gun this came from?

Nice trigger guard! It is most likely from a fowler. Probably dates between mid 1700's-1820. Very cool.

Clueless of such details but, it ranks way up there on the COOL factor scale! Is it broken in two pieces? Too bad if it is but still cool regardless.:headbang:

It was in one piece until it dried out then broke, what a shame

...another reason why I love TN... I found a brass artifact earlier in the year (deep in the middle of a fur trade site) and, with your item + VAColonialDiggers input, its identification finally comes together. Solid find!

Nice early gun part, I have yet to find anything other than a cap gun. Congrats!

Hey Coinman, I don't seem to find gun related parts much at all, especially this old. Looks like you do pretty well otherwise!

Thanks Brian

Thanks! I guess we live too far up north, the civil war seems like it had the most weapon drops. No battles really in NH, a good amount Revolutionary War activity in Mass though. I just have to hope that some hunter dropped part of his gun in the 1700's. This year was my worst year since 2013, all my sites dried up, luckily I finally found a good site with the LIDAR (after finding 7 buttons and no coins the whole year). I have four or five other cellar holes I found with the LIDAR, abandoned sometime before 1850, that I haven't check out yet.

This year has been odd! I haven't found one largie, but found four Conn. coppers. and Georgies. My Deus seems to really like those Conn. coppers. I have been detecting for 5 years now and still have not
found a Spanish reale. I have done well otherwise, but this year has been tough.

I found around four largies, but twenty something colonial coppers (since 2014). I go to older spots normally, I found 3 Indians, it would be nice to find some seated silver though. Only 2 spanish silvers, but one is completely trashed (no design even visible). I almost did backflips when I saw those pillars and the date 1779 staring back at me, under the bust of the king. I couldn't believe that I found my first Spanish silver, a half real. Good luck, I hope you find your first!
