Yesterday I found a Wheat in the front yard of my apartment. This evening I walked over to a nearby closed high school. I hunted in cherry picking mode due to the insane level of trash.

Yes, I still dug some trash. I got 15 coins including a 1944 Wheat! Funny the Wheat was near the surface and one of the memorial cents was over 5" down.

I tried hunting a new permission today but. the ground was so dry I couldn't get into it. Nice score on a few wheats. We need about a week of steady rain here to get the ground softened up and better signals going down. Glad ya' got out and scored some keepers.:icon_thumright:

Digging everything means digging trash, but you just never know, so Congrats on the wheat- hopefully there'll be something amazing in one of those shallow holes for you- GL!

I think wheats are still being dropped. I know silver is. I get wheats in coin rolls all the time. It is always nice to dig them too. Congrats on your finds.

Actually I thought it might be a modern drop at first. Seems like 1944 wheats are the most common when CRH. The dirt patina convinced me it had been dropped years ago.

I found a green cent 7" down the other day and I thought I had my Indian and hoping not to have to settle for a wheat. But NOOOOO a Lincoln with green patina all over it! Ugggggh

I know that picking trash at the old school does not sound like fun... but, there very well could be treasure in the trash. Try picking a 15 Ft square and digging ALL of the repeatable signals. I have used this strategy with success, at places other people claim are hunted out.

Best of luck to you sir!

Congrats!

Probably due to top soil being replaced or construction moving the soil around.

I once found an Indian head cent, at a new school less that 3 years old, right up next to the building.
I was very surprised!

for some reason, schools can be crazy in what and where you find things. I believe that some have had several land alterations over the years, whether fill added or leveled with a dozer. most have some really nice treasure hidden in among the slough of tabs and eraser holders. they have been very productive for me, just when I think that I have thinned one down to nearly nothing, I get surprised at what I have somehow missed

Congrats on the wheatie!
Had literally the same thing happen to me over the weekend!
Deep toasted zincolins and a shallow 44 wheatie as well!
