Two friends and fellow members of the club I belong to, joined me for a hunt with 2 other guys I met through a forum. Jack H of Athens, Pennsylvania invited us to hunt 2 permissions. One was an old fair grounds. The 2nd was a place where a row of houses once stood. One of those houses was where his grandma had resided.
The digging at the fairgrounds was tough because the sub-soil was all stones. I did manage to dig out part of a navy button, the lid off a compact, and a spoon. After 2 hours we decided to move on to grandma's house. Shortly after arriving,, Jack got locked out of his truck. I walked over to a house that was being painted by the owner, (Dwayne), and his son. He gave us a wire coat hanger and permission to hunt his yard.
Within 2 minutes, Jack had his doors open and I returned to hunt Dwayne' s yard. He told me that when he was installing a new back porch, he lost his wedding band. Well, I didn't find his ring but I did find an Antique Cars token. It has a 1910 Stevens Duryrea model X on it. Pretty cool.
One of our incentives for wanting to hunt where Jack's grandma's house once stood was an IHP that Jack found and put in a bezzle which he now wears as a necklace.
Before you knew it, it was 5 P.M. and time to start our 2 1/2 hour trip back home. It was great weather, we made new friends, and got invited back to hunt a field, once the corn is harvested.
