We only had a short 3.5 hour detecting window but it was enough to finish gridding this site. As we have now found a number of Roman clues, this site may now span from circa AD200-AD1000! So I can't call it an early Saxon site anymore, as it may start in the late Roman through the early, middle & late Saxon periods.

1 nice 17th C Button (Decorated)
1794 John Fincham, Haverhill, Suffolk Halfpenny Token
3 Scrappies
Tiny Lead Token
Bit of a Medieval Purse Bar
2 Tudor Book Clasps
Medieval Horse Pendant (bent)
2 Mystery Roman Bits
Lead Roman Steelyard Weight
Star find by Cru'Dad - AD150-250 Roman Oval Plate Brooch with Intaglio Blue Glass :hello2: (A first for us)
UPDATE: It depicts a huntsman with a lagobolon (throwing stick);

Thats a beautiful brooch! Congrats to Crudad! Best result is the proof that the site starts in late Roman and was continuous populated through Saxon times. :thumbsup:

Tiny Lead Token.
This is part of a small collection of the tinniest type of Lead Token we find & they are all from this 1 farm. My theory is they are associated with the nearby Medieval Abbey.

Congrats to your Dad on getting the awesome Brooch, what a beauty and an addition to the collection.

Great finds Cru. Is your Lagobolon like our Atl atl? A throwing stick/spear 5' or so long. There is a block(?) wood or stone with a small hole that the stick/spear fits in to help propel it. They are legal to use for hunting in some states here. The block's are sometimes found here. More rare than arrowheads. Good luck.

I don't think so its just a long stick to strike Rabbits or Hares. (I believe) Part of the depiction, often shows the huntsman hanging up the rabbits in a tree.

Great brooch Cru! What catches my eye though is that Roman unit with the perfect hole in it. Do you think that was drilled at a later date and lost? The hole has a steady bore through it and no spread so I'd argue it was done with a bit (albeit an old one)
