Hello folks, been sometime since I've been on here but I can tell you I've not stop doing what some of you on here may remember me doing. That's finding old stuff. I posted this in the fossil forum yesterday after I got it cleaned up some more.I found it Sunday afternoon metal detecting & it was dark before I finally got it dug out. So it soaked all day Monday while I worked until I got home. That's when I started trying to get the clay & shell off & posted it in fossil forum asking a few questions. I still think I can get it a little cleaner so it continues to soak today & likely I'll try again tomorrow. The metal detecting finds we're limited that day cause of the tusk find but I'LL add them to this post.

Got to hand it to you for knowing what it was to begin with. No question that this is a banner find - a 10,000 year old mastodon mammoth tusk. That's just insane. Great job saving it.

Thanks folks! I felt like this find was one I should share. I mainly just use Facebook now & days & share with family and friends. But I thought it was pretty cool and worthy of showing you folks. When I can get time I'll get it as clean from the mud & all as best I can. Then I'LL try my luck at trying to get it preserved as best I can & display it in my never ending artifact room. Lol.

Really I was just doing my normal type hunting/ mding. And was at a site I was earlier this summer looking for bottles. And saw the signs then that told me it was worth a shot at putting a metal detector on. Which is where I found the buttons in this post at. One being a very early pewter. Anyway as I ended the strip of beach I was on I turned and glanced at the side of the cliff as I normally do cause of the she'll fossils that come out. Which I have found some cool ones being whole scallops & such. Anyway that's how I caught a glance of the end sticking out. From there end piece I knew & it had my interest enough to work on getting it out. At first I really only new rather bone or tusk it would have to be old.Once I got in to digging it out the more I came to realize what I might have.
