Two lead objects, animals shown.... Roman?

Found two lead items on an old field in England.
They are shown below.

- One looks like the back part of a broken lead animal (Horse?). Register number a414
Weight 23,8 gram
Size (mm) length=42,3 height=31 width=16,8

- The other is a rolled up round lead disk, it looks like an animal in the fetal position. Register number a413
I have not yet opened the roll, and will do that only after I know how old it could be.
Weight 8,8 gram
Size (mm) length 25,1 width=13

They look Roman but not sure.

Sorry, that comes from typing in various languages at the same time.

An akker is a field.
And yes, I was amazed at finding these two objects between the saved lead pieces when I cleaned up the finds in the evening! Made my day. They were just clumps of mud where I could see that it was lead.

Forgot to say what an 'old' akker/field is in England. That is always special. An old field there can be from the bronze time, Celtic, Roman, and the middle ages.
So those fields contain everything and warm you up when you search them. Amazing what there is to find in England!

As you say you have the back end of a horse that is no more than about 100 years old and....

The rolled up piece is of more interest. It not Roman looking, probably not Saxon (although a slim chance) but probably circa Late Medieval - 18th C. It will probably fall into the toys, trifles & trinkets bracket of finds. I will do a quick look.

Can't find a match, although I'm pretty sure its a circa 17-18th C Lead Toy of an unknown type. When opened more clues may help.

Two interesting pieces and each have their own designs that makes them even more intriguing. The horse/elephant figure has some interesting designs on the forward part bent over, that might help in dating the figure. Looking forward in seeing the clean up of the other find. Well done in the recoveries.

I think that would ruin the patina. It's risky but I would slowing prize it open it with my fingers feeling for the stress points & not bending it on them or the centre of the curve. It means your left with more like a wavey surface rather than a flat one but it will stop excessive cracking & flaking.

Here is the object rolled out.

Very cool. I'm not sure what animal it is. However, I believe its sacrificial, as indicated by the bands around its waist.

No idea what the function of this ritual scene was for??

I cant help but this loks like a kind of griffin without wings to me. Or the ropes on the middle section should be folded wings...
