I had recently found this token good for a nickel drink at Schelhorn Bros. Does anyone know where I might find some information on this token and others that I have found.
I am pretty sure this token is from Evansville, Indiana - the Schellhorn Brothers had a saloon there until Prohibition forced them into the soft drink parlor business. The 5? drink probably indicated a beer.
I am the "maverick editor" for the Token and Medal Society http://www.money.org/clubs/tams/home.htm
and maintain a database of maverick tokens. I'd be happy to search it (it is not online yet) for your other tokens. Or any other treasurenet member, for that matter. John e-mail: [email protected]
Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to add those sites to my favorites list. Hey Idahotokens it looks like you were right on with your reply. I was hunting a site on the outskirts of Evansville when I found this token. I'm going to try the local library and see If I can find anymore info on the saloon.
In 1920 George Schelhorn and George W. Schelhorn were in the soft drink parlor business. I don't think they are the same guy and I also don't think they were brothers (can you imagine a family with two kids named George?). Let us know what you find at the library! John in Idaho
