Found these today, strolling in a bean field. Can almost see a bust on the large copper. Unusual to get a date off a coin that took a direct hit of fertilizer, date is usually first to disappear. The military button was identified as a New York state button. Good luck to all. Art

It's unfortunate that some field coins suffer to the elements of chemicals. Still nice to recover any old coin especially when you can still ID it. Another successful hunt as per usual Art.:icon_thumright:

If I remember right 1809 is kind of a rare date. Think maybe 250,000 made. My mistake. It was the large cent from that year. Not sure about the half

Congrats on the Half Cent Art. At least you were able to get a date off of it.

Ya know, sometimes I think that we're getting to a point in time when the coins will just have corroded too far to get a date anymore. And then, I come up with two Indian Head pennies the other day, that seem to come out just fine. Full date, details, design and all.

Excellent finds and in decent shape.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
