So all in all it was a stellar weekend for me. I was of course glad to find the 1848 1 reale but have been longing for and old silver coin from the US and ended up with two! We went back to the same place I dug the reale and I dug these two coins within just a few feet of each other so I figured they might have all been on the same piece of string. One was an 1841 and the other an 1847.

Very nice!! Probably were part of a bracelet or necklace rather than on a string. Holed coin jewelry has been popular for centuries.

Congrats on the half dimes. Makes sense those coins may have been stringmates at one time. All holed, all dated in the 1840s, and all found at the same place.
Now you have reunited them :icon_thumright:

Coily G I’m so happy for you. That’s a hell of an accomplishment where you hunt. I always try to put these finds in perspective. Finding a Spanish or early US silver where I live is awesome but it’s definitely a possibility on any early site due to the extensive early colonization here. But finding those coins where you are is a whole different animal. I hope these are the first of many. I know you work hard at this hobby and respect the history. I’m a big of fan of seeing you score these nice early coins. Well deserved

I could have sworn I replied to your post, but I don’t see it. Well, like Abe said, you killed it for your area. Kind of like the 5th person that colonized your region dropped those. I’m happy to see you found those two seated to match your reale.

I would have flipped out finding two of those after a reale. Who knows what else flew off that string. I hope you find more!

Congrats again on an awesome set of finds! I bet you're right with them being together when lost. Would love to know the story behind how they did get dropped.
