Despite my previous assessment that this season hunts were over, I managed to get ouf for a few short hunts. The ground is partially frozen and some days we had some major (for late fall) snow accumulations. Did find a few decent finds, nothing major but I'm still happy with them.

My favorite would be a 24th Regiment of foot British officers or Sergeants large button. I would think from late 1830's to early 1850's The silver plating partially survived which is always a welcome sight.

Also, found 65th Regiment button. Could be officers, I believe it used to be gold guild as I have found an other one in excellent condition at the same spot this spring. Late 1830's early 1840's

My very first Blacksmith's Token. Very strangely it took me over a 100 George III Halfpennies to finally get one.

Got a few 1812 to 1837 Halfpenny tokens. 3 Jew harps, few glass buttons, croatal bell, two 1876 Victoria Cents and Edward VII (1905) 10 cents in a great shape. Also a beautiful small colonial button with a snowflake motif (how convenient :tongue3:) and a strange piece of silver with hand engraved birds (no idea what it is).

Glad to be able to get out even for 1-2 hours hunts, but winter IS coming! Grrrrrr...

Very nice closing to the season, well if you don't get in the next couple. Great couple of buttons you picked up, really nice shape. Congrats on your first Blacksmith Token and silver. Wonder if the one piece is Fur Trade related?

While on the subject of squirrels...I’d give my left nut for a Blacksmith token!

But seriously, I would. They’re so unique and made by a guy who just wanted a few pints at the tavern. Killer finds Anton!

Thank you pepperj
That was my first thought as well. I would sometimes find Native American stone arrowheads and tools at the site I dug that piece. But I can't say that I found anything that might suggest the Fur trade itself. It was found at a site of an old colonial home dating from late 1700's to mid 1800's. My best bet would probably be that it's not Fur Trade, but I have seen very often older relics being mixed up with ''newer'' ones in the past, so anything is possible.

Thanks Steve.
Yes, legend says that he was making them in the same general area I'm hunting at but as I have mentioned , even here they appear to be much rarer than the usual counterfeit George halfpennies. Really happy to find one before the years end.
I wouldn't mind finding one of those stunning early US cents you're finding, so I think every location has it's own advantages. Congrats again, just a stunning find.

Thank you. Always cool to pull those old silvers. Although it's pretty new for the site I dug it at.
