Been super busy, a lot of medical problems and just life period. however, managed to get out today for the first time in a very long time. very first hole was this coin beside the IH, no idea what it can be. appears to be 1901 date, the bust is hard to see and the reverse side is totally toasted. I used a pencil lead to high light it as best as I could. had soaked it in lemon juice for a couple of hours to get it like it is. It is obviously not silver but my first thought when it came out of the ground was it looked sort of like a barber but I know that it isn't. Don't know when I will be able to get back on internet do to service problems. thanks for any help. DL

I agree, "V" nickel. They do not do well in the ground here either. Always a thrill though.

Congratulations on the nice old coins! The larger coin is a 1901 V-nickle.

thanks all, it did ring up pretty low but was so worn. couldn't believe that it still had a readable date. it is my 1st V-nickle so pretty cool. still working the permission that has been producing for me. dug about 25 pull tabs and rings plus one memorial after the nickle. they had dug a ditch for a new line and I wanted so bad to detect it before they filled it in but alas it was not to be. Between hospitals, VA, vehicle problems and a grandson making it again to the State Championship football game, it has been crazy.
on top of that, my 80 year old father had decided to build another house up on the side of the mountain. He is using 2x8 walls on a 2 story house that he wanted he and I to build. finally got him talked into getting other help etc. What's in it for me? well, a huge 2 story 45 year old log house with shops and garage. so, the detecting has been sidelined for a bit. thanks again for the help. DL

Good job! My first ever coin with my first ever detector, a Whites 6DB, was a nicely-preserved V. And I had NO IDEA wth it was! 😁
