The “First Hole Curse” got me today. I dug holes for 5 hours today, and the only good target was in the first hole.

I hunted with Tnetters: Mangum, Smittyman and P@tch. They all found silver coins, and I didn’t find any. The worst part was seeing their cruel smirks at my unfortunate predicament.

I dug a bunch of coins, probably 15 wheaties, I’m too lazy to count them.

The first hole I dug, had a shield nickel in it. It’s only my second one in 4 years. It’s in bad shape, but it’s all I got.

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts.

It's all a matter of perspective. That's at least (using your figures) 15 more coins than I have found this year. Good hunt. Good times.

At least found something worth posting. I usually don’t find anything. You’ll have better luck next time!

Oh I think I can see a date! 1....8....6...

Oh wait, no I don’t. Hhahahahahaaaaaaa!

I can’t tell you how real that first hole-first keeper phenomenon is. In fact, I walk away if it happens to me. I figure why not spread the wealth over a few days if there’s stuff I leave behind.

Congrats on the SN. I never dug one myself, but got one in change from a vending machine about 20 years ago. I've been told that the very corroded ones read down in foil, do you remember where that one was indicated?

It was below a regular nickel by 5 points on the Deus. It was a 47 at 12 kHz. It was a decent repeatable tone, and I have been trying to dig more mid tones, so I can find a gold ring, so I dug it. They are just a little smaller than the other nickels, and being corroded, I’d expect them to be in the foil range.

Nice find, you sure don't see many of them posted. Especially with a date. I gave up reading a date on the ones I've found and gave them to the land owners to try try and decipher. You sure can spend some time cleaning and looking at those.

Thanks buddy. I got out of the truck, walked 10 feet, dug a hole, and out popped a 1870s coin from a 1940s spot. P@tch was right there, you should have seen his face, priceless. But that was all she wrote. The curse struck!

I have done well lately, so it was good to see everyone else do well today.

Dude, even your crap hunts produce Bucket List Coins! So you hit a home run on your first at bat and then kind of petered out. Having only one Shield Nickel in nine years here I would be elated with finding a second one. So fantastic hunt ya' had. Just no silver. You'll survive to hunt another day mate and more silver will no doubt be filling your pouch.:icon_thumright:

One more shield nickel than I've got. Sorry about the silver dry spell today. Here's to a strong end of the year!
