I went to a beach, it was 17 degrees out but sunny, so the wind was blowing and I froze my face half off, no real damage, but did get three Lincoln cents, a small real gold bead and some aluminum in about 45 minutes. It's a small beach. I then had to go to a different store and stopped at a bank to cash a check. I asked if they had any halves and they had a few, I got one 40% er and then went to my CW farm and got 2 pieces of a curry comb, several modern bullets and my partner got 2 minies. Not too bad for a 17 degree day. No pics, the bead is still rolling around in the truck somewhere. We all know what cents look like.

I admire your resolve in getting out for a fix, but it makes no cents for me to even try for the next few months.

I also admire your determination, but have to agree with Pepperj. I use to go out and chip thru the frozen ground with my pick ax. Now it seems I'm content to wait for Spring. I will continue to hit wooded areas thru the Winter, because the ground does not freeze so bad under the leaves. So I guess I still get my detecting "fix" in, its just not as consistent.

When you gotta hunt.. you gotta hunt. Sadly I found myself purposely digging clad the other day simply because I knew the ground there was sandy and it was one of the few places I could dig. I am thinking about some woods where the leaves are deep and might make the ground diggable. Only one way to find out.......

Well, since then the temps dropped some more and the howling winds picked up. Now in a week it will be 50 degrees here and we'll all probably be sick.
