Hi guys.
Because of the great results with Deus on both old sites that I have been searching with Garret, yesterday I decided to research one of my first sites. I have searched twice with at pro there, 5x8 coil bringing home one silver Drachm and one silver Denarius.

Getting there
Screenshot_2018-01-10-21-13-24.jpg

I spent two hours finding almost nothing then deus was screaming in my ears. I thought about a can and ignored it. I took two steps forward but I turned back.
This beautiful Follis came out. This was the one that showed me which way to go.
Screenshot_2018-01-10-21-13-36.jpg
After the first three other follis cane out. It was already time for lunch and I stopped to eat something. Just two meters from were I was laying I had a little surprise. First i thought it was the beer. :tongue3:

Probably a late Roman or Byzantine.

This site was great because of the diversity of the coins. Roman, Byzantine, Greek and maybe even Ottoman's on the same soil. Bronze, silver and gold all together.

Justinian I, 527-65 AD, bronze follis, SB-207, bust facing / M, CON year XXIIII,
Justinian I, a follis of the type listed in the Sear Byzantine catalogue as number 168. "ANNO XIIII" is the date, the 14th year of the emperor's reign (AD 540-541). The obverse inscription is actually supposed to say "DN IVSTINIANVS PF AVG", though by the time this emperor came to power hardly anyone in the Empire could speak Latin anymore, including the people who made the coins, so the legends tend to get a bit mixed up

Probably:
Roman emperor Antonius Pius (138-161 A.D.), depicted on ancient Roman coin (bronze, denom/type: As) (As. Obverse: ANTONIUS AVG PIUS PP. Reverse: TR POT COS II SC PAX (exergue). PAX stg left., holding branch and cornucopiae.)

It was a very hard day but for sure was worth it. This time I had more quality than quantity.
Thanks for watching. :headbang:

There you go WF a better pic.

It may be just a plain round gold ring, but it's older than anything on this side of the pond. It just stands out for it's simple beauty. Congrats again.

Thanks Pepper! Looks like a plain ring as you say, that's why it would be interesting to see more pics to help IDing if possible.

A totally, totally awesome hunt there and how long of a time was this hunt anyway?

Thanks mate. It was a nine hours hunt. I stopped twice shortly to eat something. I didn't stop cleaning the coins or look at them.

My, my, my
With those kinds of results,, I would be tempted to dig all signals. I'll bet there are some great targets underneath the trash. I love my DEUS but in an area like that, with lots of iron and trash , I would have to go over it with my CTX.
Congratulations on your finds and I know there is more to come.

Your right but I thought better to collect what was on the surface. What would be the difference with the ctx?

You have done it again Vince. WOW.

That gold looks high karat, extra yellow looking. The silver coins are just awesome, and sling bullets. WOW and wow. Thanks for sharing your finds with us.

Best of luck to you sir!

Thanks man.
On the first hours I thought it was going to be my worst day but than situation turned upside down. I'm not an expert of gold but you are right,it is extra yellow. These are the deepest sling bullets that I have ever found. In the area there are no signs of ancient walls but some of the bullets tell it different.

Wow! I have hunted some roman sites but never ever found stuff like this!

For me it the first time too. I have found a lot of coins but mostly of the same period.

That was an awsome day! Big congrats on your finds! These coins are amazing, you rarely see these late romans on here. Not to mention Greek coinage... The ring is really a topper on this day. Do you have some better pics?
Anyways, well worth Banner for diversity and quality of the finds even without the ring! :occasion14:

Thanks WF
Maybe this is a better pic.

And thanks for the vote. I wanted to write the thread last night but this morning I realised that I felt asleep watching the coins :laughing9:

Thanks pepperj. I didnt post a pic because it's a simple ring but here it is. I don't dig every single signal because it's impossible. I would need months cleaning just a part of this area that's why i think it was pure luck.

Best you start clearing then, its the only way on an old site.

That day was a very productive one, a very high standard to try & maintain.:headbang:

Cru'Dad wanted to comment;

''the Silver Denarius in Vince’s post with the 2 horse riders is somewhere from 211BC to 157BC depending on Obverse head and any lettering/symbols shown under the horses but above the ROMA in exergue.
Anyway his day’s finds are certainly a BANNER day let along for the ancient high carat plain gold ring.''

It's a pleasure! Thanks for the ID and for the vote. I tried looking better at it but can't notice anything else without cleaning. :dontknow:

Fantastic finds! Just as a few other folks have stated, I would go back and start digging all of those signals. Judging from the amazing relics you have found already, chances are high there's much more to be found at those sites. Thanks for sharing what you have found so far and good luck on finding more.

Banner vote on that ring and the Denarius Vince. That productivity of that area is worthy of serious attention.
