Why would coppers be clipped like this , I know the reason for clipping silvers but not copper coins . Any ideas? Left coin 1740 KG II Hybernia and the right coin is toasted
I found a piece just bigger than the piece you are missing - my only thoughts are that if you were poor and
down to your last coin - lets say your can get 5 apples for half penny - you only want one apple - so you clip off
what you would think a fifth would be - mine is more like a quarter piece - so I'm guessing what ever he paid for that with
- was worth a quarter of a half cent

Yes, they did cut halfpennies in half and in Qrter's like yours but never seen little nibbles like the OP. Does't make sense as fraction of that denomination.
