Greetings all, I finally had the chance to take my new NEL Storm coil to our secret Civil War camp to try and coax out some deep relics. Well, I found something DEEP, but it wasn't Civil War! I got a very faint but repeatable signal and started digging. I get down to about 18" and still no target, but the pinpointer is getting a stronger signal. A few more shovels full of dirt and I decide to probe around with my digging tool. Poking it into the dirt at the bottom of the hole, I feel it hit something, so I start moving the dirt to expose the target. I saw glass and some ashes in the bottom of the hole and immediately thought I had found a soldiers hut! Nope... The more I dig around, the more I start to see a more modern looking glass item looking back at me. After widening the hole a bit more, I manage to pull out the deepest signal I've ever dug. At first I thought it was a cheap ashtray from the 70s, but after I got it home and cleaned off, I realized that it was a Uranium Glass condiment caddy from the 20s or 30s! How it ended up 2 feet deep in the ground, I'll never know. The signal came from the tin ring around the dish. I guess it put off a pretty large halo that the NEL picked up. Anyway, I did manage to find a few Civil War relics as well. I got a couple of Minie Balls, a HUGE .70 caliber "plug cavity" Minie Ball, a toasted Infantry cuff button, some camp lead, an interesting PEWTER musket ball that was fired, a strange silver piece that was folded (any ideas??), a 1943-S War Nickel, and a 1953 Wheat. Nothing too exciting, but I'm definitely happy with the condiment caddy. It glows an AWESOME neon green color under a black light and will make a great display for the Civil War relics that come from the site. Thanks for looking and HH!

PS: My hunting buddy ended up finding a Large Cent, .58 cal three-ringer, AND a modern Zincoln FROM THE SAME HOLE!!

Minie balls and uranium glass... what? I’ve never seen that combo before, and bet I won’t ever see that again. That boggles the mind.

Congrats on the cool finds.

That dish has been waiting patiently for 85 years or so for somebody to rescue it... That's a neat find!

I like the variety of the other goodies you found, too!

That's a cool display! Love the dish!

Your silver bit looks like the match striker surface from a vesta.

Hillary sold that Uranium glass to the Russians. How did it get in a CW pit? That dish is OUTSTANDING and valuable, congrats. Sub 8-)

She obviously did not have the intel on this piece because it was in an unknown silo. Other wise it would be speaking Russian

Thanks for the replies everyone! We went back to the site and I found another piece of that silver match case (Thanks to DCMatt for the ID!). Apparently the soldier folded it in 3 places and then broke it in half. The piece on the top is what I found on the most recent trip.

Thanks guys! It's definitely going to be a centerpiece for my finds this year. I can't believe the NEL Storm actually got a signal on that thin metal ring at that deep. I guess it had one heck of a halo!
