Engraved Sterling Silver Cufflinks, 1788 Connecticut Copper, 1781 Irish Halfpenny

Once again for some reason I decided to go back to the ca. 1790 house/courthouse site. The ground is still frozen solid and it was 25 degrees outside. I've mentioned it previously but the homeowner recently bulldozed the patch of woods in which the foundation was located and stirred up the ground quite a bit. Now it's just a big open field and all the coins and relics are either on the surface or 1-2" deep.

Been over the area about 30 times but I keep finding stuff every time I go back. Today was no different.

Started right away with the cut Irish Halfpenny with a 81 clearly visible, making the coin 1781. About 5 minutes later I dug (sorry, I mean CHISELED) the 1788 Connecticut copper. I think I hit it pretty good unfortunately. Or maybe the bulldozers did. It's in really nice shape otherwise.

Next I got the cufflinks and man are they beautiful. Never found sterling cufflinks like this before, let alone some that have initials on them. These say "JC". Just so happens the man who built the house had a last name of Clark, and a son named Jehiel..... Definitely one of my favorite finds I've ever made.

Thanks, agreed. There have only been a few finds that can directly attributed to a person who lived at a home on I site I've hunted and I think they're really special.

Nice finds The half penny is a British (britania reverse) Irish half pennies have the harp on the reverse.

Sorry I realised you where talking about the cut piece, when I glansed at that I thought it was a lock cover If you can count the strings on the harp, you can tell if it's a counterfeit, regal issue had only 9, any more strings would be a counterfeit.

🤣 no worries! I never knew about the number of strings. I've found a few over the years I'll have to take a look at
