Roman Brooch & Silver Sixpence

Trying to finish the bottom of the field I have been doing before moving on to a better one (I hope) which has just been harvested the other day.

Spent just less than 3 hours after work.

5 poor condition Roman Coins (average on this field is less than 1 an hour, so pretty good)
Very worn 1852 Silver Sixpence - Victoria

A nice Roman Brooch with some green & blue enamel - have a couple of this type but this is the largest. ;D

And bits........

Unbelievable the things that you find! Great Relics, I ALWAYS enjoy your posts. By the way, thank you for I.D.ing that Nipple Button for me a couple of weeks ago. It is very rare to find something from the 1600s here in America. To be able to find stuff like that, and on a daily basis at that, is a metal detectorers dream! Great Stuff ;)

Good job, bud, on the Womans! You know how to walk on the steps of Roman dudes who were careless with coins. :D

It's always interesting to see your finds Crusader. You come up with stuff a couple thousand years old instead of a couple hundred like us in the U.S.

Cool finds, the broach is wonderful. Congrats!

I see that even in Roman times, people "holed" some of their coins.

Smiles!

As usual you have come up with some awfully old stuff. It amazes me that you know what that stuff is; most of it looks like blobs to me...I'd be throwing it away! I guess if I ever get over there I will need a babysitter! ;D

Re: Roman Brooch & Silver Sixpence

I'm headed over that way in about a week and the same thing worries me. I won't be able to recognize a brooch from a fibula from a tibia or a part of a plow. I'm gonna need some babysitting for sure.

I have a feeling I'm going to be dragging EVERYTHING in from the field. If there is as much iron crape there as there is in the Netherlands, I'm going to need a bigger trash pouch.

No its described as a Enamelled Headstud Brooch - 2nd Century AD. Also Fibula's are Brooches.
