Hit a local park that has been reluctantly producing goodies lately. Dug up a large (size of US silver dollar) token for Alcatraz federal penitentiary/ San Francisco that was buried in the softball complex common area. This is my third large copper token found in the past five months, I think I am on a roll!

The other two "largies" found late last year. Indianapolis Speedway and Golden Gate Casino Las Vegas.

Thanks for looking, I wish all of my TNet friends "Happy Hunting!"

Thats amazing. I'm surprised at the lack of information I could find on the Alcatraz token. Seems like the only info is items on Ebay. Let us know what you find out about it.

Thanks for the kind words, ya'all! These three tokens all had VDI's of 89-92 on the ATPro. Lookingharder, based on what I can find, looking at the original plastic sleeve these Alcatraz souvenir tokens came in, they appear to have been produced in the 1970's-80's? Cheers, Sub

Your title made me think of an actual prison I detected. One of the stranger places and was surreal to be in the prison yard with high fences topped in barbed wire and detecting next to the main building with bars over the windows and a huge watch tower. lol Of course the place is closed, but that was an interesting experience. Didn't find much though, but guess the prisoners didn't have too much to lose. Got me lots of nice prison detecting photos too.lol By the way, not sure how the frowny got at the top of my post, I never added that.

I've been hunting the San Francisco parks a thousand times since 1987 and had never found an Alcatraz token before!..That's awesome!
