Nice sunny day but that meant the early morning freeze turned into a WWI trench. We predicted (hoped for) 10 scrappies today & thats what we got! The condition were so punishing Cru'dad stopped after 3.5 hours & I throw in the towel at the 4 hour point. That was plenty on my weaker knee.

Tudor Button
10 Roman Coins
1561 Lizzy Sixpence - Cru'dad picked it off the top.:laughing7:

PS. Notice the lack of the usual average finds (like buttons etc) - a sign of a site coming close to its end. (economically speaking)

Smashing good find Cruโ€™dad. Like Anton said, an amazing plow survivor considering the size.

Only in that after 10 years of gridding the same area, over & over, the finds are so few that its not worth our effort. If we are finding less than 1 scrappy per hour then its time to move to a site that produces 10. It's purely productivity based detecting.

Does that mindset change Cru if itโ€™s a site thatโ€™s produced a high number of rare or scarce finds or if itโ€™s a preferred date range?

''Does that mindset change Cru if itโ€™s a site thatโ€™s produced a high number of rare or scarce finds or if itโ€™s a preferred date range?''

It's purely done to ensure we use our most valuable resource (Time) in the most effective way. We prioritise based on other facts as well & a site with low productivity may come to the top of the list if all other options are unavailable.

We have discovered 40+ Roman Sites & we have to spent the limited time we have at the right places. Plus Cru'Dad gets bored if he's not continually GPSing Roman Coins.

Not quite true as your copper age, if I remember right is over 1000 years older than our Bronze Age (our earliest metal history).

Congratulations on the Big Hammered Silver and all your other finds. A tip of the hat to you and Cru-dad for working in a mud pit to get to those recoveries.

Congrats to Crudad on a big one! Not clipped, not broken, well centered... That happens rarely. With all that the wear doesn't mind. :icon_thumright:
