Howdy Folks. Still attempting to get my therapy when I can. Ground is pretty frozen in most areas but, I will chisel out what I can to get me out of the house. Not much for finds but, the cool old axe head. I believe this is my first in this type and probably my oldest axe head. I was pleased to get it as the snow was coming down. A very peaceful time in the field. As always thanks for stopping by. Kurios1

Congrats on your old axe head. No expert but, I reckon old Abe Lincoln may have split rails with one like this. Must be civil war era anyhow. I love anything old. Even rusty tools. It was a great day. Thanks for chiming in.

you make me feel very blessed, it is warm but rainy down here. I just need hip waders to dig in for the mud and water. glad you found some great relics and some quiet relaxing time....well, I guess it can be relaxing chiseling a find out of the ground

Kevin..... first off you get an A+ for working in the snow. I just got back from huntin' the beach it's 70 degrees here today :sunny:

Check out Simmons & Co. Cohoe, NY. They made a steel broadhead axe head that looks a lot like your find 1834-1860

Cheers.....

Thanks for encouraging the crazy guy to continue roaming the snow covered fields of northern Illinois. It really was quite peaceful and not too cold. I did have to pass over some deeper targets where digging wasn't possible. Thanks also for the lead on my axe head. Been wanting an old one for a long time.

One of the best things about T-net is the challenge we receive from others who post cool finds recovered under some difficult conditions. I can attest to this personally. Many of my best recoveries have been since I became active on this forum. I wish you well on your adventure. It's suppose to hit the 40's here tomorrow. Party time!

I was going to hunt today but the humidity was awful, so I stayed in the air conditioned house all day and got some rest.

There's not much you can do to beat the heat. I don't think they allow naked metal detecting? Night hunting in the summer is my option or jumping in a creek. I was comfortable for the three or four hours I hunted today. Right about 30 degrees.
