Went for a park hunt today with my digging buddy and daughter.
Few bucks in change, about 20 pull tabs and slaw bits, and then I get a good solid low 50s on the dues in 18khz.
I dig down, see the yellow glimmer and grab it up out of the plug and start walking over to my partner with a big smile. On the way I begin to doubt what I have (still hadn't looked at it closely) due to the weight seeming off in my hand. I hand it to him to do the honors. No hallmarks but it sure did look real! Chalk it up as a fake, wear it on my thumb for the rest of the hunt and post it on FB sharing my disapointment. I actually didn't take any field pics because I had already written it off as a fake. Then I get a bunch of replies from people who have or have found unhallmarked gold encouraging me to investigate further.
I break out the magnet, it's nonmagnetic.
Break out the file, stone and acid kit. And it tests between 18k and 21k!

4.84g and boy am I a happy camper :)

Already into the silver and good relics for the year and now on it for gold and from my first park hunt at that! 20180224_173829.jpg 20180224_205416.jpg 20180224_205420.jpg 20180224_210121.jpg 20180224_210904.jpg

Sometimes when a ring has been sized, they remove the markings. This is mostly on a ring with a setting, but I imagine it could occur with a wedding band. Nice recovery.

It was a great first day in the park. Congratulations to the guy that’s gotten me hooked on this hobby. I’m so jealous. And I’ll be taking some gold out into the yard today so Hopefully I can join the gold league. Lol
