Hi everyone,

Am doing the happy dance today ;D First gold, first ZAR coinage, Best find.

Went to a old Boer war site with a friend, where the artillery were set up for battle in the Boer war.
It is a great site made up of walls about 1.5 metres high that the troops used to run around in. The whole structure is in a horseshoe shape.
Anyway, I got a signal and dug down and found this coin. As soon as I picked it up, I saw that it was gold because of the colour. Something I learnt from this site is to never rub a coin, so I waited till I got home and washed it in soapy water. (that was very difficult)

Gold Kruger 1 Pond, 0.2353 Ounces Gold, Value +- R2000

I found another bullet case and a small piece of pottery, and that was it......

I know for a fact that this site has been gone over by many others in the past, as this was told to me by another guy that did detecting. So right from the start I knew that if I found something, there would not be much.
But I have learnt from Tnet that a site is never stripped of it's finds.

Anyway, here are pics of the coin and the site, hope you enjoy them.

God bless
Peter

pgill, that is great!! Man I would like to look over there. What about the Zulu wars and the battle at Roarks Rift? Is that close and can you look in those type places? Ahhh, the Victorian era. I was born out of time. I was supposed to have been an ivory hunter and explorer...d2

Wow Peter, awesome find and a big congrats! Welcome to the gold coin club. Great pictures of the Boer War Fort, must be Boer War II, 1899-1902. Was the Fort a British Fort or a Boer (Farmer) Fort? Would you mind if I post this at another site where I have several South African forum friends? They would love to see the post and are getting ready for a big Boer War hunt! You know the site, maybe you cold post it yourself. HH, Mike

Thanks guys,

Mike they know the site already.... they are the people I spoke about that have already been detecting there. They have been in a big group to what I have heard. That is why I did not find lots of items. Lukas was the chap who told me about this site, he also showed me the site on google earth..... I will be speaking to him on Monday ;D

The fort seems to be from the British side as we also found a British bullet case. The fort is from the 2nd Boer war.

The gold coin club feels great ;D

God bless
Peter
