I had my best hunt of the year today. I went back to a wooded area where I found a 1902 Barber Quarter last year. I started swinging in a hot spot by complete accident. First I pulled a 1940 UK penny then I found a St Jude chime. A few feet away I find the 100+ year old coin spill. All the years I can read are 1907 or older. I later find a US Capitol token and a 1957 Wheatie. Towards the end of the hunt I found this small bottle in washed out roots of a tree along with another small bottle near by. A killer day for me, I usually dont find this much in one hunt.

Most of the coins are covered in black crust but I was able to carefully locate most dates after soaking. They don't picture well and cant see any details if I tried. I only rinsed the Barber silvers, the quarter is a lower mintage year P mint.

St Jude Chime, I think the back says "St Jude Help Of The Hopeless Aid Me In My Distress"?

I have more area to cover but I quit at dusk. Thanks for looking, good luck out there!

That's definitely a hot spot you found. I bet those coins will clean up after you soak them for a while. Lots of high tones must be virgin ground, congrats!

It's a piece of land that was mapped as a potential lot for homes 100+ years ago. Instead it was likely a hang out spot and a short cut to a view of the Ohio River and a park nearby. I like the patina on my barbers so I don't want to do the baking soda, foil, and boiling water trick. I'm soaking the quarter now.

I could sure use a hunt like that. It would be like a "Field of dreams" for me.

Your Garrett AT-pro did you well today in locating an awesome spill of old coins. I need a day like yours to get things rolling, best I have done is a single I.H. penny year was 1888.

The bottle appears to be an early vaccine bottle, though I've never seen one with sides quite like that. The lids are permanently attached with a hole for the needle to go through. The lid may feel a little loose now, as there would have been a piece of rubber in it. Used hundreds of these in my day. It was typical to just toss them.

At least you broke the ice with that first IH.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Just keep at it and you'll find some good spots. I found 14 silvers last year and I'm already at 7 for 2018. I get better each year and you will too.
