This is why you never give in to that "sinking feeling" - my first gold ring!

My regular beaches are all sanded in, so I decided to travel a bit and try a new area. It was a beach near a coastal inlet, and I managed to get in about three hours of hunting. I was surprised to find a LOT of targets, with only THREE of them being pull tabs! I hit the beach a bit after low tide, and the incoming tide made the second half of my hunt more difficult (although I am still very much a fan of my AT PRO!). Below is a pic of the fishing sinkers I dug (all 42 of them - hence the "sinking" feeling!).

I also managed to find a few modern coins (who cares if there's a pic) and two wheat pennies - a 1957-D and a VERY thin 1942-S.

But clearly, my find of the day is my VERY FIRST gold ring! It isn't much, only a 10K weighing in at an anorexic 3 grams, but I've been hunting beaches now for more than half a year and I've never found any gold before today. I don't need any help (for once!) with the maker's mark on this one - it was solved for another user in a previous TNet post. (It's a Tessler and Weiss ring). I know it's not a big deal, but it was a first for me, so thanks for looking!

Good job. It pays to not give up. That's a nice looking ring. When I'm detecting I generally toss the sinkers found to any fishermen nearby. They get heavy after awhile.

I usually do that as well, but there weren't any around today! My brother and I do a lot of surf fishing, so I'm sure we'll use some of them this season!

Yes, nothing like the first one. I was digging high sand at a Delaware beach a few years ago, and this round white object appeared in the scoop. At first I had no clue what it was. I really hadn't gotten the knack for finding rings and was too dumb to recognize it for what it was. A 10k mans' white gold ring. Talk about egg on your face!

Congrats on your first Gold Ring.
Tag it, date it, put location on tag, and put it away.
That's a special find.

I did that before I posted the thread! (My daughter wanted to know if I was going to sell it. I told her she could sell it when I died. Her reply: "Okay, cool!")

Congratulations on your first gold ring find. :icon_thumright: This is a perfect example of why you should never give up. Yes you might dig hundreds of pull tabs and other metal junk out of the ground but when you think back to the amazing finds you have dug out of the ground........that is what keeps you going. It does for me anyway.

I also like the exercise and just flat out being in the great outdoors. :tongue3:
