So With the snow and frozen ground I have been going absolutely nuts not being able to detect lately. So I was going through the back of my truck and made an interesting find that I almost threw out! I found this thing sticking straight up out of the ground at an old cellar hole. So I yanked it out to detect around it and never gave it a thought. It was obviously used as a stake at some point and smashed with a hammer, which is funny for what it is. I believe I found my first gun barrel, seems short though don't have an exact measure but some where around 26 inches?. Gotta set up a larger electrolysis bath for it here at some point and look for stamping. But there is 100 percent a dovetailed front sight on this sucker, cant really tell if there is rifling or not yet. Anyone aware of that short of a rifle in like a 30 ish caliber?(will take proper measurements later)

It's an octagonal barrel from what I can see. I have a .54 caliber Thompson-Center muzzleloader with one. Yours is definitely not .54 caliber however. Much smaller, but I cannot say which exactly. Cool find!

yeah I have an repo kentucky long rifle, so familiar with the style. Which makes it that much worse I almost threw it out, haha

The bore looks a little off center but back in the day before precision machines who knows. Is the bore all the way through? Cool find.

Dude, we here in Syracuse are going bat ship crazy with not behind able to detect, so we get out and hunt the areas where the grass is poking through. Don't worry it will all be over soon, unless that noreaster hits us.

Yeah I'm south of Rochester, no grass poking through here haha. Even if it was it's sill frozen solid. I feel your pain

You talking lever actions? I know about the long and short 30 30 with those. this was a muzzle loader though, which is why the shortness caught me off guard.
