Found lots of coins 2 old pins/badges, the disc is definitly between 1916 & 1923. The other is military but I don't know the year or branch. what seems to be an old bracelet, 2 other items i'm unsure of. At first I thought an old syringe plunger and part of a harmonica but now I'm not so sure. The other item is a solid lead dog. Which looks to be hand carved. Very cool. I also found a horseshoe and a bunch of other stuff.

I agree about the razor. At first I thought it was a syringe plunger until I cleaned it up because there was a Civil War hospital at the site. The DuPont badge is the coolest of them all though. DuPont had a dynamite factory here in 1916 and then they produced gunpowder during WW1. The town was called City Point until 1923 when it was incorporated and became Hopewell Va. So its especially interesting that the badge says both. I may give it to the city museum or library.

The Dupont medallion/tag with City Point Va. on it is interesting. Dupont made most of the black powder for the Union during the Civil War and City Point was a major port. A heavy equipment operator I know was digging at the point and told me there is a 5' thick band of charcoal left there from what used to be gunpowder. The salt peter has leached out over time but the remaining charcoal shows the magnitude of powder the Union had to work with.

That's interesting because i have seem a lot of that charcoal like substance in a few spots i hunt. I was not aware that Dupont was manufacturing gunpowder during the Civil War though. I know City Point officially became Hopewell in 1923. City Point was one of the largest ports in the world for about a year during the Civil War and the siege of Petersburg.

Dupont made the powder we used against the British in the war of 1812 too. Our area has some Revolutionary War history too; though I have not found a thing absolutely from the Rev War.

I've been doing some research and i found where a Colonial town use to be right here outside of Hopewell on the Appomattox. Actually not far from where i live. It was also used as a staging point/port during the Civil War. I'm thinking i may go to the library and see what i can find. They usually have a lot of information on the local history.

I would think that around City Point you could throw a stone and find relics wherever it lands.

I'll bet twenty bucks that you have your first U.S. plate inside of one year.

i certainly hope so. So far I've found 32 bullets and an artillery fuse. The problem is getting anywhere near the actual City Point location to hunt. It's very protected. So far i have only hunted on the outskirts of City Point with permissions of people i know and where they are doing some construction nearby.
