Got out for 2.5 hours today to troll the farm fields. I concentrated on one half of one field that in the past had been difficult to hunt much of due to corn stubble. Now it's fenced and pasture for horses. No horses yet, so I had the run of the field. Many interesting items were dug in this order: Federal hydra-shok .45 slug, remains of a pocket watch, 1891 Indian Head cent, toe tap, pewter-like leaf design, brass buckle, 1930s die-cast pistol pencil sharpener, and the handle to a pewter utensil.

Made a mistake trying to toothpick around the date on the IHC and knocked off the "8", ooops!

Here are the pics:

Thx Ken! That leaf pattern has me scratchin' my head. This place gives up the coins sparingly. Once I dug it I expected more.

Nice assortment of finds McCDig. If you were able to knocked off the "8" - it was already coming off! Thanks for sharing...

Thanks vpnavy! Yes, when it came out of the dirt ball there was a heavy green stain on both pieces of the clump. Pretty toasty is spots, particularly on the date. It was cool to dig a coin and recognize the shield on the reverse.

Thanks Trezurehunter! When I was thinking of where to hunt I figured I might as well go to the spot that I hadn't done much with. The pasture that's fenced is a hillside and near the top it seems to be littered with buried household trash. There was a house at the top of the hill, not the main house but more like a tenant home. Gone now and super trashy anywhere hear the top.

Thanks dirtlooter! Still have more ground to detect there, so maybe more to post in a week or so.

Thanks Professor! It really was great to get out. This small pasture is close to where I found a large cent last year so maybe something older that the Indian will show up.

Thanks sutphin! Here is what the diecast sharpener looks like complete; this pic was taken from an online selling site.
