Found several surprising discoveries while TH'ing this past weekend

Hello again Folks! :D

Got off work early last Friday to get in a few hours detecting the fort to start off the three day holiday weekend and managed to dig this '61D rosie and a few wheats across the street from the simulation POW camp before getting dark.

Had some things to do around the house all day Saturday, but left early Sunday to go back to a new area located near the National Guard abandoned swimming pool on the fort. It wasn't ten minutes later I got a dime signal and dug this cool looking silver ring ;) It has the words "Manila" at the top and "1945" a the bottom with some kind of bird flying through the letter "V". I figured some soldier bought the ring overseas and lost it before going swimming? ??? Can anyone help me ID it?

Don't know why, but the ring was crimped at both ends for some reason. Maybe the person wore it around his neck with a chain ??? I think I'm going to take it to a jeweler to see if it can be straightened out to be worn again :D

A little while later, my VDI read between 93-94 and dug this neat looking military eagle medallion about the size of a silver dollar :o It was a few inches in the ground. Don't know if it's brass or some other metal, but it's pretty heavy. Can someone help me ID this too? I don't think it's a buckle, since the reverse has no belt clasps or hook shanks.

Well, here's my silver take for Sunday's finds (less the ring, medallion and wheat pennies) Also pictured is the silver nickel and '35 buffalo found in the same hole 8)

Went out again yesterday to the same swimming hole area, and managed to dig three more merc's ;)

Here's my total haul for the three day weekend :P

Thanks for looking folks and HH to all.....James

P.S. Oh, I almost forgot, War Eagle!! :D

That "V" was the symbol for "victory" during WWII. I believe it was popularized by Winston Churchill.

Thanks for the pics and reply diggummup :) ...very interesting history for sure!

Looks like it was made into a very small bola tie clasp. Which is usually a very thin braided cord or leather.

Thank you BIG61AL for the response and info on the clasp. I agree with you 100% it's a tie clasp.

Great finds, but can't help with the ring. Looking at your thumbnail makes mine hurt, though! ;D

Great finds! I believe that medallion is a chest plate buckle from the civil war era. -HH
