On my way to visit a friend in PA I decided to test out a spot that always intrigued me. It was a clean area with few targets. I got few flat buttons and their condition was great.
I began to hope that if there is an older copper in here, it will come out nice.
But the area went cold, and as my time ran out I began walking back to my car swinging. Then a clear sharp tone hit my ears! Could this be something good? Sure enough a LC shape appeared from the moist soil.
A beauty 1803 Large Cent
I got home the following day and did some more research, found out it’s a small date/small fraction stemless variety of the 1803 Draped Bust cent, I believe Sheldon 243.
I’m not cleaning it, just water wash and extra fine paint brush dusting.
I’m used to corroded green discs, the soil has been good to her! Definitely one of my better condition LC finds.
