Here's some pictures from my last trip to the piles.

A few more. The figurine has an oriental look to the face. These mine tailing piles are interesting because you can find artifacts mixed in with the minerals. No gold on this trip though, just some nice looking pyrite.

There's a lot of broken glass in the piles. I wish I could find some whole pieces. I kept this piece of china because of the visible pattern. The other picture is a piece of carnival glass.

Here's a close-up of that small cube of pyrite. All the pyrite was on top of the ground.

Great finds! I especially like the figurine. I'm guessing that there were quite a few mine workers from China. Do you have any idea of the age of the piece and what it's made of?

The figurine is lead, and it looks like it was attached to something in the past because there's a post on the back. That rust spot on the front is bleed over from the back. The area is Leadville. Colorado. Mining went on from the mid 19th century to present, so there very well could have been Chinese workers.

I love detectin tailing when I was out west.
Short trip and didn't find gold in the tailings,
but found some in outhouse floor.
That figurine would have made my whole trip.

The guy that told me about this particular area said that it took him a year to find his first gold, I found mine on the first trip. So you really can never tell if your going to get lucky or get skunked.

UnEarthed, I wish it was gold! On this trip all I collected was pyrite. That is a picture of a solid chunk of pyrite. It's still pretty to look at though.

oohh my bad i think grubbys post led me to think it was gold,but i saw layers n all looked a bit odd.
