Went back to the site where I've been popping rev war buttons and Spanish silver. Did some bushwhacking and came up with a handful of keepers. The Navy Commander/Lieutenant button was a nice surprise! Dug some random flat buttons a short distance from the early site, then dug a few tombacs, watch winder and 1700s silver spoon bowl back at the early one. This place is hopefully going to keep giving. Next visit, I will bring my small coil and see what happens. Thanks for looking....oh, and you might have to turn your head sideways...the joys of using an android phone to post pics lol. That's not the back of the navy button in the 2nd pic. It's just a flat button with a cool raised backmark.

Just close your eyes and picture the person who wore that thing. What their life was like. How long ago they lived...

Damn, what a great button! Huge congrats!

I know what you're saying! I had to look up what the uniforms looked like then. Pretty extravagant! There has to be more buttons in there, since they had over a dozen of them just on the front of their coat. I'm kind of surprised that a shoe buckle hasn't come up yet. Still waiting for an intact example
