This was basically what we call a blind hunt as this field had no archie intel & no crop-marks to speak of. However, I've been eyeing this field whilst going to work for awhile only because it has light sandy soil. In our area, this is reason enough for me to go house knocking to find the owner. I did this awhile back & last week we finally signed the contract they wanted & we have been granted permission for this field alone to see how we get on for a couple of months.
I was hoping this was farmed in Ancient times, but being a flood plain I knew it would not have been settled on & at the very least I thought it would have been farmed in the Medieval period, so I thought a hammered was likely. How right can you be.:laughing7: Sometimes, when your hot, there is just 1 way to go, get hotter......:thumbsup:
I had mis-heard them & it only had a 12" plough, which is still the deepest plough they do around here. I named it the Potato Field as its the only one around that we have hunted.
6 Hours;

My first drone (funny thing is we had our first question on 'do you use drones' from this owner, & now we can say 'we just find them on your land, first time out!')

You were busy. Must be tired after all that digging. Congratulations on all those nice finds.

It was a lot of digging including all the trash, but it was easy digging & the finds where quick to find, so honestly I was not that tired. This is just what we are used to.:thumbsup:

Yeap, funny how I had to straighten 2 of the smaller pennies & the shilling seemed to escape the worst of it. As they did a deep plough for the potato's there is a chance it was down deep for a long time.(below the usual plough depth)

Cheers everyone.

Looking forward to some more gridding tomorrow.

This field used to be 7 smaller fields in 1945.
