I was metal detecting at a WW2 training base that I have hunted at least 15 times. I was using my Minelab Equinox 600 on this hunt. It was a slow hunt, I was mainly only finding bullet shells and clad. Towards the end of the hunt I got a signal around 16-17. When I popped it out it was in the dirt clod and it looked like another shotgun shell until I broke it open and I saw a anchor that said USN on it!! After some cleaning I found out that it was a ring, I thought it was brass at first but after that I was in for a even bigger surprise. It was my first piece of gold!! It is 10k and it weighs 8 grams. I was on cloud 10 when I saw that! It also dates to WW2. This just proves that a site is never hunted out. You have more patience than me, to be digging all the mid's and lows in a junky military base filled with spent casings. I'll extend that "dig all" patience to ghost towns or beaches , etc.... But if it's just a WWII base, I'll probably get lazy and start skipping the spent casings, foil, etc.... You are a patient man indeed. Congratz on the gold ring !

Also, here's a tip on where the most rings at a military base will be: If it was a base that had boot camps and P.T. training: Look for the hand-to-hand wrestle pits. Like a sandy pit where they trained in wrestling. There was a fellow who hunted Ft. Ord (also dates to WWII) quite a bit in the 1980s, and he wised up to this. He located several of these P.T. pits located around the base, and found 7 or 8 men's gold bands this way.

That's an amazing looking USN gold ring, talk about 'Saving US History' right there! :occasion14:

Just goes to show that no site is hunted out even after 15 visits!
