I forgot to mention in the last post that this field has been left without a crop & the weeds/grass are over 2" in places. Some areas are already not detectable in this 40 acre field. So its a race against the weeds. Good news is they have already given us another field to try, so that's Fridays job.
I'm not surprised that we didn't repeat our Day 1 result because that was a crazy good start. It's not that unusual that I sniff our the best areas pretty quick. However, we have days of gridding ahead of us & all the signs are positive.
(6 Hour Hunt)

1 Roman Coin (Our first from this field)
Victorian Royal Engineers Button
2x 17th C Buttons
Livery Button (Its the matching cuff to the last one we got)
3 complete Crotal Bells (all fell to me, might be a record):icon_thumright:
Medieval Buckles/bits
Thirty Shillings Coin Weight (Not seen this type)8-)
Medieval Horse Harness Pendant Hanger
Lead Cloth Seal
14th C Seal Matrix (Badly worn & broken)
17th C Thimble
16th C Dagger Pommel (Type I need)8-)
Roman 2nd C AD Sword Chape:icon_thumright:
Hammered of Edward III - Halfgroat (Cru'dad's 3rd dig & our kiss of death):laughing7:

Got a positive ID on the Roman piece, which we guessed might be a Chape & its a 2nd C AD type similar to one found on Hadrian's Wall! (RARE FIND):occasion14:

Congrats on the sword chape (and still having a field to detect) The crown shaped dagger pommel is a fine find too. Weird to find two of these "not every day" finds in the same field. :icon_thumright:

Yeap, but totally different area's. We still have lots of potential for this time of year even if we have to battle the weeds. Our grand total of finds for this period in the year is our best ever. (it could all change)
