Found these the other day. Heart jumped into my throat when I saw the glint of GOLD. Brushed it off and all looked good, until I took a better look....

Googled it and it turns out that this is a copy of a real coin. The real coin is extremely rare (Blake & Co. Assayers....only one coin known to exist). It had the "20" stamped into it similar to this one, and a similar "20" stamping on the reverse.

What it turns out to be if what I read is true....Back in 1969, Chrysler Plymouth was just releasing the Plymouth Gold Duster. If you took one for a test drive, they gave you one of these coins as a memento of your test drive. They probably had many, many thousands of these things minted. So, no gold in pocket, but I learned a bit of history.:read2:

BTW, the site I was hunting in was a somewhat popular tourist destination until 1969 when the business was closed. No business has been conducted there since, although hikers and 4-wheelers pass through year round.

That might just be the closest equivalent of a metal detecting throat punch that I have seen posted. Geez.

Good piece of history though. Well done.

I'm sorry, I just can't give a banner vote on a counterfeit gold piece. I can however congratulate you on an unusual find.
