Well im pretty sure that this button belonged to general Fitzgerald beale. I found the button on a hill side right next to a corner post marker a wooden post set in the ground about 6 inches round i also found old cans of spam charcoal i haven't been back to the sight im working in san Diego but going home tomorrow newhall if button belonged to general beale wood that make it worth any thing.

Is your button 1 or 2 piece and can you read a backmark? While it does resemble the "Great Seal" button it is not one. I haven't found one like yours in my reference books yet but I am still looking. Please post a picture of the back.

With regards to Beale, I don't think your button dates that far back. When you enlarge it, you can see ghosts of the wreath above the eagle's head, which indicates to me that it is either a mis-strike of a Great seal button, or one that has been altered.
