I found a virgin cellar hole a while back
and this one keeps on giving.
So far I have been lucky enough to find
8 colonial coppers about 50 tombacs
and flat buttons and my first cut silver
that I posted a few weeks ago. I never
thought I would top the cut silver especially
With something like this but I guess that's why
We love this hobby so much , you just never know
What you are going to find next ! This coin is a 1799
draped bust large cent she is in rough shape but very beautiful to me !!!

That's a beautiful old copper digger dad! Looks like someone got an early Father's Day gift. Congrats!

Nice find! This might be a dumb question but I've noticed a lot of great cellar hole finds lately. Are you guys finding these relics in the cellar hole or just nearby? I've hunted several cellar holes but never found much in them.

Excellent question. I have wondered if anyone shovels out the soil that tends to fill in the cellar holes to find deeper signals. And if so, in addition to scanning the deeper hole, scanned the dug soil or screened it?

I have heard two opinions about the coppers at home cellar sites: 1) Large coppers were tossed into a pile of potatoes to reduce rot and 2) That the depiction of Miss Liberty could protect a home from attack in the War of 1812 if the coin was placed on a window sill. I have found a couple of Draped Bust cents at the sites of homes burned by the British in the summer of 1814, and wonder if those coins gave the residents some sense of security.

I have been finding everything away from the hole . I actually think this was more of a ,livery or store . The main house is still there and is actually a beautiful home . I am finding all my goodies about 100 yards from the main house but but there is about an acre of grass and tulips that were out of place in the woods.

Good idea to use those tulips as an indicator of a previous structure. It gets a little too cold here for tulips to do that here, but lillies are another reasonable indicator of an old structure.

Super good find!

Get it graded , which and more importantly by getting it graded, it will authenticate it , and keep it protected.

Its in poor shape but that doesn't matter seeing how rare it appears to be.

Dont clean it, keep it just the way it is.

Plus its much easier to sell once its graded by a top grading company.

I mean you could turn that small chunk of copper in to a bunch of silver or a piece of Gold.

Or not, since rare coins tend to increase in value over time, but not always.

I contacted PCGS and they put me in contact with a coin dealer in my area . The coin dealer pretty much told me it is worthless . I am not a coin expert by no means but it remains priceless too me !!

Worthless but I bet he wanted it right. Tons of people need that coin to finish a collection.

Any American coin from the 1700's is an awesome find. Congratulations. Way better than the Spanish silver you found in my opinion.

Whoever said it is worthless is either:

1. An idiot
Or
2. A con artist.

I guarantee you get that thing in a “Guaranteed Genuine” Slab from PCGS and it would command value as even a “filler coin”. But your right, it would be priceless to me as well! Great find!! You deserve a banner in my opinion!

Well, it is useful to learn that dealer's opinion is worthless. I think it is a great find and does not require any authentication or grading - until or unless you want to sell it some day.

Hey, I had my oldest find recently, extremely fine detail except for one area. My coin looks better than a lot of official ones....despite the weather, freezing/thawing, elements.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone but they seemed snobby to me.

"They" being the people I interacted with. Not anyone reading this.
