Got out in the Savannah heat yesterday for about an hour and a half and found a spot that was very interesting.
I got a weird signal on my XP Deus HF elliptical and stuck my shovel in the ground to dig it. Immediately heard the "crunch" of something. At this site its not unusual to hear crunching glass or potery or shell when digging, so popped the plug and saw the top of this bottle. Heartbreaker, I'm sure that I hit it. So I removed as much as I could, but there were these little buck shot lead pieces all over it. They must have been the wierd signal that made me dig in the first place. They may have been inside the bottle? The dirt was very loose in and around the hole and the lead balls were all over. I removed a handfull of them to take home and look at them, then went on to find the rest of the buttons and stuff in the picture since I had limited time. I will be going back to this hole in the near future to see if there is more to it.
The big pewter button is very interesting. I'm assuming its 18th century, but not sure if it's military?
