I got out on Saturday for a bit with my sister. I went to a spot I have been working for the last year or so. Good signals are getting sparse, but on my last visit I found an 1857 dime before I had to cut the hunt short. Saturday I only found three keepers - 1918 Merc., a slightly unusual one piece flower button, and a above average 2 cent piece.

Good luck to all that get out this week!

That had to be a heart-stopper to pull out! The condition is indeed remarkable; no doubt it was dropped still fresh. What I marvel at is the color and clarity after such a long time underground. Wish my copper coins came out so nice! Must be the rough soil here.

Congrats mate! :occasion14:

I think part of the reason it held up so well was that it was in soil that drained well.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The two cent piece is in that class of obsolete American coin denominations that seem so quaint to us today - 1/2 cent, 2 cent, 3 cent, and 20 cent pieces. I remember when I dug my first one almost 30 years ago. I have probably dug about a dozen of them now. This one is quite possibly the nicest.
