After taking one week break from detecting went back with full force hoping to catch up on the time lost. Got a new permission that didn't really look like much from the outside but something was telling me it would be a good hunting spot. I guess I was right. Other than the cool relics, found nine early coppers on the long week end hunt. All are in the decent shape other than the much newer Edward VII penny (go guess...).

The coin find of the hunt was this uncommon type George II counterfeit halfpenny. From what I understood, a few years back it would have been called a rarer type early American counterfeit.

An other cool coin was 1808 US cent. I rarely find them where I'm at.

A well preserved 1781 Irish Hibernia

20180626_084338.jpg 20180626_084345.jpg

A Matron 1838 (again, unusual where I'm at)

Now, for the fun stuff.
A few War of 1812 buttons.

My first British 100th of Foot button. Great Regiment and the button is in a very good shape for a 200 years old pewter. Has an intact iron shank.
20180627_083347.jpg 20180627_083401.jpg

An other first and an other great regiment . British 19th Regiment of Foot.
20180624_225021.jpg

And than an other first. Generic (officers?) War of 1812 button.
20180627_083315.jpg

And a later US button. Not sure of the type.
20180627_085850.jpg

Now for the relics. Probably the coolest, for me personally, was this piece of an early lead typographic plate with the religious text.
20180623_213145.jpg Resized_20180623_213145_9244001[8233].jpg

A shoe buckle. Used to have a beautiful design. Unfortunately wasn't spared by the centuries spent in the ground.
20180627_085709.jpg 20180627_085716.jpg

The biggest bell I ever found in Canada.
20180625_090018.jpg

Than, the smallest one.
20180625_085942.jpg 20180625_090003.jpg

The most unusual find of the hunt was this star badge or rosette. Pretty big and heavy piece.
20180626_173703.jpg 20180626_173713.jpg

And than the most ironic find. A clay pipe steam with the writing BANNERMAN :laughing7:

Thanks for the comments.

That's one heck of a new permission. I'd be dreaming about going back to that spot all week

Dang even you relics say Banner right on the side. Pardon my jealousy. I'm one of those guys who's been at it for a decade and still never found anything banner worthy. Keep up the good work.

Man what a great hunt! Love the coppers and buttons. The 19th regiment with the elephant is really cool. I also like the counterfeit KG II. Haven't seen that one before.

That's some great stuff. The Hibernia is clearly a counterfeit as well.... his head is too thick to be a genuine coin. It's almost like a combination of the Irish George III bust and the British. The 100th button is definitely a winner!

As a guy out west that doesn’t see anything much older than 1860, how do you identify coins as being counterfeit vs real? Something I’ve always wondered and we just don’t see that degree of history out here. thanks!

Very nice group of coppers and relics. 1807 is the last year for the Draped Bust Large Cents, so your cent must be 1798 !

Really a great, good variety group. Interesting post! I too would like to tell a real from fake coin, especially after a couple centuries and the detail getting obliterated in the ground.

Sure you'll be back at that spot every available minute until you wont even be able to pull so much as a lead shotgun pellet out anymore.
