Found a button and I rarely find buttons ever at a 1820’s property. Any idea I don’t wanna do much more cleaning afraid I’ll ruin it like I’ve done many of things. Lol IMG_0056.JPG IMG_0057.JPG

I can read "extra rich", but not the first word.

FreeBird your right!!! I saw “Extra” but couldn’t make out the 2nd now I brushed it with a toothbrush and water and am making out “?” & German. Looking it up now. Thanks for getting the ball rolling for me!!!

creskol, I think you're close but the lettering doesn't seem to match yours. Was "extra rich" a manufacturer or a brand name? Looks like everything except "London" matches Truth1253's find.

Extra rich referred to the quality of the gilt the buttons had.

Nice button. As someone above mentioned Extra Rich refers to the quality of the Gilt. There are many other similar quality marks, such as Treble Gilt, Double Gilt, Super Fine, Orange Gilt, Etc, Etc.
Here is a short and interesting read.

I also believe villagenut may have nailed it.

W &G Chance Extra Rich .....more so defined

I found another button there today and a 1837 Capoed Bust half Dime. Go check it out on Today’s Finds. I’ll so excited because I’ve never had the opportunity to find old buttons or buttons in general. Thanks again for helping me.
